‘정년이’는 여자 주인공의 이름이다. 주인공 윤정년은 타고난 소리꾼으로 연기력도 뛰어난 소녀이다. 주인공 정년의 배역은 영화 ‘아가씨’와 드라마 ‘미스터선샤인’의 주인공이었던 김태리가 맡았다. 드라마 정년이는 최고의 국극 배우가 되기 위해 매란국극단에 들어온 윤정년의 성장을 보여주는 이야기이다.

드라마 정년이에서는 공연 장면들을 시청자들이 실제 무대 현장에서 작품을 관람하는 느낌이 들도록 촬영하였기 때문에 시청자들로부터 큰 호응을 이끌고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 드라마 속 오디션 장면은 요즘 유행하는 방송사의 오디션 프로그램을 보는 것 같은 착각을 일으킬 정도로 배우들의 뛰어난 연기력이 시청자들의 드라마 몰입도를 높이는 중요한 요인이 되고 있다.

여성국극은 한국전쟁 전후 남성위주로 구성된 국악계와 창극 등의 예술단체에 대한 반발로 만들어진 여성국악동호회에서 시작되었다. 노래와 춤, 연기를 곁들인 일종의 공연예술로 발전하면서 여성국극이라는 이름으로 불리게 되었다.

여성국극은 야사나 설화 등을 모티브로 해서 남녀간 사랑 이야기로 재구성하여 무대에 작품을 올렸다. 1949년 ‘해님달님’이 큰 성공을 거두었고, 무영탑, 선화공주 등의 작품들이 큰 인기를 끌었다.

여성단원으로만 구성되어 있기 때문에 여성들이 남장을 하고 왕자나 영웅의 역할을 맡았는데, 특히 ‘임춘앵’은 여성들로부터 큰 사람을 받았던 당대 최고의 남장 배우였다. 드라마 정년이에서 당대 최고의 남장 배우로 등장하는 문옥경 캐릭터의 모티브가 된 것이 임춘앵이 아닐까 생각한다.

여성국극은 1960년대 영화 산업이 발달하고 텔레비전이 등장하면서 쇠퇴하기 시작했다. 그런데 최근 여성국극에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 새롭게 여성국극이 제작되고 있다. 드라마 정년이 신드롬이 사라졌던 전통 한국 창극의 부활을 가능케하는 계기가 되길 기대한다.

In addition, the audition scenes in the drama are so great that viewers feel like they are watching a popular contemporary audition program on a broadcasting station, and the cast’s excellent acting skills are an important factor in increasing viewers’ immersion in the drama. Yeoseong Gukgeuk began with the Women’s Korean Traditional Music Club, which was formed in response to the male-dominated traditional Korean music world and art groups such as changgeuk before and after the Korean War. It developed into a performing art that included singing, dancing, and acting and became Yeoseong Gukgeuk.

Yeoseong Gukgeuk reconstructed stories of love between men and women based on folk tales and presented them on stage. In 1949, “Haenim and Dalnim (The Sun and the Moon)” was a huge success, and works such as “Muyeongtap” and “Princess Seonhwa” were also very popular.

Since it was composed of only female members, women dressed up as men and took on the roles of princes and heroes. “Im Chun-aeng” was the best male actor of the time who women greatly respected, and I think that the character of Moon Ok-kyung, who appears in Jeongnyeon as the best male actor of the time, was inspired by her.

Yeoseong Gukgeuk began to decline in the 1960s as the film industry developed and television emerged. However, as interest in Yeoseong Gukgeuk has grown recently, new Yeoseong Gukgeuk are being produced. The drama Jeongnyeon will catalyze the revival of traditional Korean opera, which has been losing popularity.
